Movie Monday - 9/22/2014

Let's do this...

I watched CBGB not too long ago.  It tells the story of the New York club called CBGB for country, bluegrass and blues, owned by the infamous Hilly Kristal. The club and Kristal were characters. Yes, the club was a character and the bands that played there were as well.  From Blondie to The Police to the Talking Heads and The Ramones. CBGB, as it turns out, was the birthplace of punk.  Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint, Johnny Galecki and Ashley Greene were among the stars in this film.  It was pretty good...and so was the soundtrack.

Fruitvale Station was a thought-provoking movie, based on Oscar Grant's last day before he was shot and killed by BART police in the wee hours of New Year's Day 2009.  The film is based on true events. The filmmaker wanted to give Grant a story besides "He was a young, black man who was killed by a white cop." Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz and Octavia Spencer star in this movie. It was good.

Clint Eastwood, Isaiah Washington and Dennis Leary star in True Crime. Eastwood also directed this film. It's an old movie I saw on tee vee the other day. An alcoholic reporter has a hunch that a death row inmate set to be executed in the next day or two did not commit the crime. He has just hours to gather some evidence and convince the law that they have the wrong man. It was well acted and very good.

MK out.
